This basement was the reason we purchased this home. Out of all of the houses we toured, OVER A YEAR, this finished basement was the only one that didn’t feel like one. I couldn’t wait to do this makeover from Day 1! However, other projects took priority, so finally 2 years later, here we are!
I like to construct my posts to be easy to read and find what your looking for. So if you have any specific questions please feel free to leave a comment. You can also find me on all of my listed socials.
PAINT MAKEOVER
I’ve received this question so many times since posting my living room. The color throughout my home is a custom color from Sherwin Williams. Take this photo to your store for the same mix. We replaced it here with Divine White by Sherwin. Since this level has few windows, going with a bright shade helps brighten the space. This can intern make it feel larger as well.
(Forgive the look of this sticker, its been in the back of my utility room in the corner since the contractors finished with it)
Cabinetry
Trying to find modern, 34″high or more and 70″wide or more sideboards, can get VERY pricey. My favorite trick to get the look, but cut down on cost, is combining multiple accent tables.
The Ikea Brimnes Cabinets were perfect. I purchased 2 of them. The center cabinet is the Brimnes 3 Drawer Chest. I liked that the top drawer is frosted, so that you can showcase items in that drawer. I replaced the hardware on the two cabinets with these bronze handles.
Filled the top drawer with every treat I could think of that we liked.
I put this set of strip lights behind the cabinets. This decorative wood chain is amazing quality.
Coffee Table Books
This art project was fun. I wanted two large pieces of wall art to fill this wall above the sideboard. 36×48 to be exact. Prices for modern wall art with those dimensions can get pricey. So DIY it is. You simply use a joint knife and spread spackle over the canvas. I added some paint with a brush for some depth. Super easy and fun! Here’s your shopping list for this project:
- 2 36×48 Blank Canvases
- Acrylic Paint
- Joint Knife
- 2 Shades of Spackling (I would get at least 32 oz. of each for this size canvas)
I found this beautiful vessel on Overstock and filled it with this Faux Olive Branches. I don’t recommend this brand however. They arrived with half of the leaves separate in the box.
Seating Area
- Candle Holders
- Candles (These are electric! I know, they’re beautiful)
Possibly the most important item in this makeover is the seating. This is the Cali Pearl Sectional from Coleman Furniture. I purchased 2 end pieces. They hook together, and the covers are removable and machine washable.
Do you approve of this makeover?! If your interested in seeing a video of the space, head over to my Pinterest. Needless to say, I’m down here often now with my glass of wine snuggled up watching a movie by myself. I was going for cozy, and cozy is what I achieved. There is a guest room, full bathroom, and gym down here as well.
I hope that you were able to find whatever it is you were looking for and that you were inspired to makeover a forgotten space in your home.
